Common documents
The form and questionnaire, CV, civil-status records, proof of current citizenship, foreign criminal-record certificates and a certified copy of a valid identity document.

Croatian citizenship
There is no single checklist that fits every applicant. Croatia’s Ministry of the Interior lists common documents, followed by additional evidence that depends on the legal basis of the application, the applicant’s circumstances and the instructions of the competent police authority or Croatian consulate.
Quotes usually sent within 30 minutes during business hours · same-day delivery depends on scope and availability.
Identify the legal basis first
The Ministry publishes a core list to accompany the prescribed application form and questionnaire. Applicants must then establish whether they are applying on the basis of residence, marriage, Croatian affiliation, emigrant ancestry or another statutory ground, because each route may require different supporting evidence.
The form and questionnaire, CV, civil-status records, proof of current citizenship, foreign criminal-record certificates and a certified copy of a valid identity document.
Evidence of residence, marriage, Croatian origin or affiliation, emigration and each link in the family line, or other records relevant to the statutory basis relied upon.
For each foreign document, check separately whether Croatia requires a certified Croatian translation, an Apostille, full legalisation or no authentication under an applicable treaty.
Evidence by application route
The Ministry expressly states that different grounds for acquiring citizenship require additional documents. These are the principal categories to check before ordering translations.
Prepare evidence of the relevant residence status and duration and, where applicable, the marriage and the spouse’s Croatian citizenship. The receiving authority confirms the exact set according to the statutory provision relied upon.
Applicants may need older records showing their own or a parent’s declared nationality, such as civil-register extracts, school records, employment or military records, together with evidence of activity in Croatian cultural, scientific or sporting organisations.
Evidence must establish emigration from the territory of present-day Croatia and, for descendants, every link in the family line to the emigrant. Older migrations may also require evidence of the date of emigration and the historical territorial context.
The Ministry lists the child’s birth-register extract, proof of citizenship and the other parent’s written consent, subject to statutory exceptions allowing one parent to apply alone.
Core application documents
This list concerns acquisition of Croatian citizenship by naturalisation. Exceptions apply where facts are already recorded in Croatian registers, and further evidence depends on the legal ground for the application.
Preparing documents for translation
An applicant with approved temporary or permanent stay in Croatia generally applies at the competent police administration or station. Without approved stay in Croatia, the application is submitted through the competent Croatian diplomatic mission or consular post abroad.
Check age limits, whether an original or certified copy is required and whether civil-status facts are already recorded in Croatia. The Ministry states that foreign criminal-record certificates must be no more than six months old.
Foreign public documents generally require authentication unless a bilateral or multilateral treaty provides otherwise. If the original must be authenticated, send the document for translation only after the Apostille or other legalisation has been attached.
Upload every page, reverse side, stamp and attachment. Before work begins, you receive a quote stating the scope, deadline and price for the documents that actually need translation.
Practical answers
No. The Ministry publishes common attachments but expressly states that different legal grounds require further documents. The exact checklist depends on the statutory route, the applicant’s circumstances and the instructions of the receiving authority. Official Ministry of the Interior guidance ↗
According to the Ministry’s published instructions, certificates issued by the competent foreign authorities in the applicant’s country of citizenship and country of permanent residence must be no more than six months old. They are submitted as originals or duly certified copies with Croatian translation.
The Ministry states that a birth-register extract is not required where the applicant was born in Croatia. A marriage-register extract is not required where the marriage took place in Croatia or a foreign marriage has already been entered in the Croatian marriage register.
Not always. The Ministry states that foreign public documents must be legalised unless a bilateral or multilateral agreement provides otherwise. Where the Hague Apostille Convention applies and no more favourable exemption exists, the process is generally simplified by an Apostille. Check the issuing country and exact document before acting. This service covers certified translation and linguistic preparation of documents; it does not determine whether the statutory conditions for citizenship are met. Confirm the legal ground and final checklist with the competent authority or a legal adviser before translation.
Each price is determined individually after the document has been reviewed, taking account of the language pair, volume and type of text, certification, deadline and any other requirements. A certified-translation quote may be based on Croatia’s Ordinance on Permanent Court Interpreters. The Ordinance calculates written translations by a standard line of 50 characters, with one standard page of 30 lines—or 1,500 characters—as the minimum unit.
